Lee Westwood wants to led Europe in Ryder Cup in future

Englishman Lee Westwood harbours ambitions to lead the charge for the European Ryder Cup team sometime in the near future, but for the moment, he has given his full backing to the appointment of Darren Clarke for the role of skipper for the 2016 edition of the event, which will be held in the United States of America.

Clarke has also been backed for the role recently by world number one Rory McIlroy, who thinks the 46 year old, will be the ideal captain following in the footsteps of successful skippers like Colin Montgomerie and Paul McGinley and Westwood has also voiced his backing for his long-time friend.

Lee Westwood thinks that it is that time in the career of Clarke when he should be taking on such responsibilities with open arms, adding that his popularity in the United States of America means he will be the perfect person to lead Team Europe when the event returns to the US in the summer of 2016.

Westwood is also nearing the record of becoming the highest points’ scorer in the history of the Ryder Cup. He currently stands at 23 points, two behind the legendary Nick Faldo. Westwood said that one always likes to set records and he has already set one by being a part of seven winning teams and he wants to secure the record for most points as well.

Speaking of his captaincy ambitions, the 41 year old stated that he does look at himself as the leader of the team some time down the line but not now and for the moment, he is only concentrating on securing that elusive first major triumph that has passed him by for years since he has become the world number one and then lost his position and now he only wants to see his name on a major trophy.

Matt Kuchar withdrew his name from PGA due to injury

The final major championship of golf is on its way and one of the major concerns for the fans is the growing injury list of golfers. Matt Kuchar the golfer from US withdrew his name from the PGA tour. His decision of withdrawing his name came as he was facing a bad back just before the start of the tour. This was a bad news for the world of golf as the player is ranked number 6 in the world ranking of golfers. His absence will be felt at the PGA tour for sure as a player of his calibre would have been a great challenge for others. His absence from the tour is not only a matter of worry for the organisers of the PGA championship but rather than that his matter injury is a big matter of concern for Tom Watson. Watson was named as the captain for the US team that will be playing in the Ryder’s cup this year. US team is undergoing a matter of concern due to injuries and Matt Kuchar is one of the biggest names in that list. Watson the team captain will be hoping for Kuchar to get fit as soon as possible so that his concerns over this year’s Ryder cup gets over.

Kaymer Reveals His Injury In A Press Conference

Martin Kaymer these days is a well-known name in the world of Golf. This year he became the first player to win both the Players championship and the U.S. Open in the same year. After the great success there were speculations that the golf player has been having shoulder injury and will be in trouble when it comes playing in the PGA championship. These were only speculations and not an official announcement from the golfer. His injury was one of the biggest concerns before the PGA tour to be played at Valhalla.

In a press conference the reporters asked Kaymer about his injury and tried to inquire about his chances of playing the PGA tour. Listening to this question the German golfer was surprised and inquired on how they know about his injury that occurred during the British open. Due to this injury he came down to the 70th place in the opening week while finished the championship at the 54th place. The player though in the press conference insisted that he is fit for playing at Valhalla the last major championship this year.

The German star golfer is currently ranked 12th in the world golfers list and is all set to start off fresh in the PGA tour. It has been long since he has played in a real championship and was getting back on terms being healthy. The US open was the last time when he played almost all the games. The British Open saw him suffer a lot due to the injury. Practice was a matter of concern for player and in the conference he stated that in the past weeks he has practised a lot and will play even more golf so that he is in a good shape before the last major of the year starts off.

Tiger Woods not bothered about poor start

Barely a few weeks from the worst start to a season in his professional career, Tiger Woods has stated that the immediate target for him is concentrated on just one thing – the first major championship event of the year.

Speaking to an American media outlet, the world number one stated that once the Florida swing starts, everything will be centered on building up to that one week in April. He stated that all others are building up to that, their main target is not to finish dead last, but if one manages to win, then it would be great.

The Masters will be held during the middle of April, and Woods will be taking part in three more events before now and then at Florida as he builds up to the Augusta National and he has a firm target in mind, even though he doesn’t admit it – winning his fifteenth major title and breaking a major duck of almost six years.

Tiger Woods stated that he took a lot of time off during the off season this winter because 2014 was always going to be a long grind and he admitted that it took him a long time to get going as a result. He stated that it took three rounds in San Diego and another three rounds in Dubai before things finally began to fall in place.

The he mentioned his tour of India was where his improvement began taking shape and felt he had got his game back and the tour had done wonders for him.

The American admitted that this is not something he is used to but it’s not something he is concerned with at the moment and this makes Tiger Woods confident that his build up to the Masters will come in handy in the Masters.

Tiger Woods skips WGC-Accenture

American golfer Tiger Woods has confirmed that he will be returning to competitive golf after three weeks to take part in the Honda Classic and will also be a part of the field to defend his World Golf Championship – Cadillac Championship as well as the Arnold Palmer Invitational titles next month.

The world number one has started off the worst season of his career after two tournaments but he will take his place at the PGA National in the Palm Beach Gardens of Florida for the Honda Classic in a star studded field that will also include the likes of Phil Mickelson as well as Rory McIlroy.
